Jawapan RASMI SSKM-SSU(UK) Kepada Pengguna Facebook Yang Bernama Deddy Mul

Pihak SSKM-SSU(UK) ingin membuat kenyataan RASMI ringkas berhubung dengan beberapa perkara yang telah dibangkitkan oleh seorang individu yang dikenali sebagai Deddy Mul's (nama Facebook). Antara perkara yang dibangkitkannya adalah seperti berikut;
Mungking saya akan sokong penuh perjuangan SSKM sekiranya terbukti beberapa perkara. Antaranya;

The History of Sarawak under its Two Rajahs

As I have been requested to write a preface to The History of Sarawak under its Two White Rajahs, one of whom I have the honour to be, I must, first of all, assert that I have had nothing to do with the composition or writing of the book, and 1 do not profess to be a writer, otherwise than in a very ordinary sense, having left school at the age of twelve to enter the Navy.

Chong: No need to question ‘walk’ organisers

KUCHING: State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen sees no reason for the police to question the organisers of the ‘722 Sarawak Freedom’ and ‘Independence Day Walk’ held on Wednesday.

He said the organisers did not commit any crime, thus the need for the police to question them should not arise.

“What is there to investigate and complain about? The police can only investigate when a crime has been committed. What is there to investigate about the walk since they did not commit any crime,” he told a press conference at DAP headquarters here yesterday, which was also attended by Pending and Batu Kawah assemblywomen Violet Yong and Christina Chiew respectively.

Chong, who is Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, was asked to comment on Police Commissioner Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman’s statement which stated that the involvement of S4S at the event in Song Kheng Hai rugby field had raised concerns since it was not a registered entity.

He was also quoted as saying that police would question the organisers which included Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia). Chong said S4S was just a concept which disagreed and agreed with certain issues, adding that even Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem accepted the concept advocated by S4S.

“There is nothing for the police to investigate. Just do your job to combat crimes and not to poke your nose into other areas.”

Benarkah Negara Sarawak Belum Merdeka?

By Haji Julaihi Haji Suut

Barangkali inilah jawapan terbaik untuk pakar sejarah Datu Dr Sanib Said. Kenyataan yang dibuatnya boleh diibaratkan sebagai "Shooting self in the foot any which way you turn".

Nampak dah?

Heed the people’s cry

Masing urges government to listen to the message sent out by the huge crowd celebrating the state’s Independence Day

KUCHING: The Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) rally on Wednesday is a wake-up call for the federal government which must acknowledge the message sent out by the participants.

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing believed both the federal and state governments should take S4S rally seriously because of the composition of the crowd, the enthusiasm shown as well as their aspiration.

Amazed by the crowd which consisted of participants from all walks of life and from all ethnic groups including the disabled, the elderly and the young people, Masing said the federal government should not ignore it.

“What S4S is doing is correct. We must harness them. The federal government must not dismiss it as it may result in killing the messengers and missing the message. The federal government should listen to the message.”

Impressed by the enthusiasm shown by the young people who bought their full attire and their willingness to spend on painting colonial flags on their faces at the rally, the Baleh assemblyman hoped the enthusiasm could be ‘used, harvested and harnessed’ by the state government by including them in some of their official activities.

“I was impressed by them. There was this statement they painted on their vehicle – “We are not Chinese…we are not Dayak..we are not Malay. We are all Sarawakians.” Masing, also Minister of Land Development, said this showed that the participants had the right racial attitude and direction towards a better future.

“The racial attitude should also be emulated by Peninsular Malaysians,” he said. When contacted, Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) president Sidi Munan said he gave his blessing to the S4S organiser, Peter John Jaban, to proceed with the assembly on three conditions, namely: no to the call for secession, adhere to the law and only seek recognition from the state government to commemorate July 22 as a public holiday for Sarawak.

“The police needed a registered society to organise the event, so I agreed that Sadia should be the registered society to apply for the permit on conditions they observed all the three things that I have told them to adhere to,” Sidi said.

Sidi asked Peter John to state the financier of the event and he was told that it would be self-financed by the participants who came from all over Sarawak.

“I asked this question because I do not want it to be infiltrated by any political party as Sadia is apolitical,” he said. Sidi also confirmed that Peter John was now an exco member of Sadia, being given the task to look after the social welfare of the Iban-based NGO and recruitment drive.

“He has been very helpful to those from the rural areas who are seeking jobs in towns and places like Kuching. He also helps us to look after the welfare of people who are poor and in need,” added Sidi.

He hoped the state government would listen to the voice of the over 5,000 people who attended the gathering and even engaged S4S in next year’s celebration of the same event.

“Actually I was surprised by the turn-out. We never expected such a big crowd. With such response from the people, we hope the state government will take their voices into consideration and declare July 22 as a public holiday for Sarawak to commemorate our Independence Day,” said Sidi.

Meanwhile, state CID chief SAC Dev Kumar said 13 people including Peter John were asked to give their statements after the event.

He said an investigation had been initiated against them based on their speeches under the Sedition Act.

“But on the whole the event was organised in an orderly manner and no untoward incident was reported,” said Dev Kumar.

Masing, Lo counter Sanib’s views on state’s independence

KUCHING: Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing believes that Sarawak became an independent state on July 22, 1963.

Masing, who is state senior minister pointed out Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan was sworn in as chief minister on July 22, 1963 after a legal election process that was held in June-July 1963 and a cabinet was formed. Thus, he said a beginning of a self-rule for Sarawak began on July 22, 1963.

“Does self rule mean the beginning of a country’s independence? Yes. So from July 22, 1963, Sarawak was on its own as a self governing entity, “ Masing, who is Land Development Minister, told The Borneo Post when contacted yesterday.

Masing, was responding to a claim by Sarawak Malay Graduates Association president Datu Dr Sanib Said that it is wrong to think that July 22 is Sarawak’s Independence Day.

Sanid was quoted as saying that there had been factual errors and misleading assumptions concerning this date, particularly in newspapers and social media by some quarters.

He said July 22 was just the beginning of a process towards independence and Sarawak achieved independence from the British for only a few hours on Sept 15, 1963, when the colonial governor Sir Alexander Waddell left for Britain.

“The next day, Datuk Abang Openg Sapiee was proclaimed as the governor and at the same time, we formed Malaysia and our independence continued. It is on Sept 16 that Sarawak became independent in Malaysia.”

Sanib, who is also a historian, said he has done many studies on this period and believed that there was need for people to know the background of July 22.

“July 22 was when the governor proclaimed the appointment of Datuk Stephen Kalong Ningkan as the chief minister and new Supreme Council members who formed the first ministerial cabinet in Sarawak.

“We were not independent yet because some powers were still with the colonial governor and the Queen in London. July 22 marks the process of becoming independent. All colonies under British government must go through similar process. It was to train to local people to run the country,” he said.

Masing, who is Baleh assemblyman said the formative years of Sarawak and Malaysia as a Federation had been subjected to some confusion and interpretations.

“In part, it was due to the hurried nature the Federation was created and a few ‘participants’ taking part in the acts such as the UK, Malaya, Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia and later Sarawak and Sabah were brought in.

“Thus we had confusion on Malaysia’s independence, for instance, was it Aug 31 or Sept 16? Did Sarawak attain its independence on July 22 or Sept 16?”

Meanwhile, UPP secretary-general George Lo opined that Sanib’s view that Sarawak was ‘not independent on July 22 because some powers were still with the colonial governor and the Queen in London’ was too myopic.

“With all due respect to him, that view is too myopic. We need only look across to Australia where, to this day, the Governor General is still the representative of the Queen in London.

“Sarawak was as independent a nation on July 22, 1963 as Australia is independent today. And Australia is not the only example. Look across the Commonwealth countries.”

Lo, who is also UPP Batu Lintang branch chairman, said the mere fact that some vestige of symbolic power remained with the colonial governor did not detract from the greater symbolism when the colonial flag was lowered and that the Sarawak flag raised and Sarawak had its own government and its own Chief Minister on July 22, 1963. He called on Sanib: “Please don’t try to rain on our parade as Sarawakians celebrate that historic day of independence on 22 July”.
