JOHOR - The younger brother of Johor's crown prince has created a stir on Instagram with his caution that the southern state may secede from Malaysia, it was reported.
The post by Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim on the photo-sharing site, uploaded on Sunday, was removed on Thursday, the Malay Mail Online reported.
In the post, the prince reportedly said the Johor government had joined the Malay federation in 1946 on several conditions.
"If any of these conditions are violated, then Johor will secede from Malaysia," Tunku Idris posted on his Instagram account @tunku_idris.
The conditions included making Islam the religion of Johor, the state's absolute right over water and land issues, and the state royal house having its own armed forces, according to the news portal, which added that it was not known what prompted the prince to make the comments.
His post came amid a war of words between Crown Prince Tunku Ismail and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz after the Umno minister reportedly told the crown prince to stay out of politics or Putrajaya will "whack" him.
The Crown Prince had slammed Prime Minister Najib Razak on Facebook on June 5 for not attending an open forum earlier this month to explain the alleged fraudulent deals of the state-owned investment engine 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
The two princes are not the only members in the family who have a bone to pick with the prime minister and his administration.
Their father, Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Sultan Iskandar, is an open critic of the 6 per cent goods and services tax (GST) introduced by the federal government on April 1.
Last month, Johor instructed all its 16 local councils to stop charging GST for its services to the public. The Sultan had said it was illogical to impose the tax on public services as it was a duty to provide free services to taxpayers.
Johor, together with 10 other Malay states, agreed to form the Federation of Tanah Melayu in 1946.
